Bees love Borage. This beautiful blue bee plant has edible flowers.

How to grow:

Borage is an annual, easy to grow and does not have any particular pests and diseases. May self seed and grows to a height of around 80 cm.

Sow seeds from March until September into well prepared ground in an open sunny position. Scatter the seed and rake in.

How to use:

Harvest the flowers when fully open and the leaves when young and tender.

The black stamens form a point at the centre of the flower, hold this when you want to harvest the flowers and gently prise the flower from the calyx.

The young leaves can be chopped for salads and  smell like cucumber

Remove the flowers as described above and decorate salads or place them in ice-cube trays, cover carefully with water and freeze and use them in summer drinks.
